Sequencing Oil Painting Workshops

Developed by Vermont artist, Ric Campman, at the River Gallery School in Brattleboro, VT, Sequencing is an approach for both novice and experienced artists to enter the process of painting at a deep and direct level. The intent is to keep the connection between the eye, the hand and the painting as direct and non-intellectual as possible.􏰁􏰝􏰤

As Picasso and others have suggested, art making is not seeking a result, but a discovering of forms, relationships and harmonies that emerge from our process. By allowing ourselves to not know, we are in a position to recognize the new knowing that comes out of our work. Creativity often is seeing ourselves surprised by what we discover and suddenly know.
